If you have employees who may need to enter a permit-required confined space — also called a permit space — you must have a written permit-space program that accomplishes the following:

•  Identifies the permit spaces at your workplace
•  Identifies the hazards in the spaces
•  Describes how hazards will be controlled
•  Describes entry procedures
•  Ensures that the employees are appropriately trained
•  Defines employees’ duties and responsibilities
•  Describes procedures for responding to emergencies
