4. Is the MSDS/Hazcom e-Library system easy to use and navigate?

The Library is built using the Microsoft Compressed HTML System. MSDS and HTML files are displayed in a browser-like window. The top pane contains the toolbar, the left pane contains the navigation methods, and the right pane displays the topic. Anything you can display in Internet Explorer can also be displayed in the Library Viewer.

The navigation pane contains the Contents, Index, Search, and Favorites tabs. By clicking topics in the Contents, the Index, or the Favorites list you can explore any information within the Library. From the Search tab you can locate every occurrence of a word or phrase that may be contained in any topic.

5. How many users within my facility can access the MSDS/Hazcom Library and what is allowed under this site license?

We believe that everyone in your company should have access to the MSDS database so our low price is for as many users within your facility as you want!  Therefore there’s no extra charge for multiple users within the same site location! You can load this 4-disc MSDS/Hazcom Library onto your company network for as many users as you want per location. 

 

The "Single User License" for $395 allows you to download MSDS Library onto a single computer and your Local Area Network for multiple users.

 

The "Site License" for $995 allows you to download MSDS Library onto multiple computers at one location and your Local and Wide Area Network for UNLIMITED users.

 


6. Can I load the MSDS/Hazcom e-Library onto my company network so everyone in the facility can access the MSDS?

YES!  You must have MS EXPLORER 4.0 or later.  If you are installing to a network, you must install as an administrator. There are no other application requirements in that the viewer software technology uses Internet Explorer for viewing and searching.

 

PDF documents require installation of Adobe Acrobat Reader (6.0 is recommended for full functionality)

 


 

7. What file format are the MSDSs in?

The MSDSs are in the following 3 formats: HTML; PDF; or text files. In addition The MSDS Library includes over 200,000 html based MSDS in Microsoft's Compressed HTML Format (CHM).

 

Access to CHM files can be obtained through a network share or locally on a user's computer.

 

 


8. How do I copy the CD Set to my hard drive and how much free disk space do I need?

First check to see that you have at least 3.5 gigabytes of drive space available on your hard drive.   To setup and copy the e-Library to your  hard drive  insert CDs 1 thru 4 in sequence when prompted. Adobe Reader 6.0 is required to access the 29 CFR SMartPDF volumes. You may install the 6.0 reader from the main menu of the e-Library.


9.  How often is the e-Library updated?

The MSDS/Hazcom e-Library is updated frequently. The MSDS/Hazcom e-Library is linked directly to our online Library which is modified and re-indexed as new MSDS resources are added.

10. How do I Search my Adobe PDF MSDS documents that are in the Local MSDS Folder?

Adobe PDF content can be searched through the Acrobat Search command. In addition to searching a current PDF document and searching a catalog index of PDF files, you can also search a collection of PDF files in a particular location. You can search multiple Adobe PDF files that are in a specific location, such as a folder on your hard disk or local network. You do not need to open the files before running your search.

Searching Adobe PDF documents in a specific location:

To search in a specific location do this:

  1. Click the Search tool or choose Edit > Search, and type the word or phrase you would like to find.
  2. For the Look In option, select from the list in the menu. You can search by volume or specific folders.
  3. Select Browse For Location to find the folder or folders that you want to search.
  4. Click Search.
     

Notice at the top of the Search PDF window the listing of the search term and the location of the search (in this case the folder named "Local MSDSs")

The results appear nested under the document names and paths.
 

Refining Multiple-Document Searches

After you search more than one document, you can use the Refine Results pane to reduce the number of search results by adding additional criteria. Only the existing results are searched.

To refine your search from previous results do this:

  1. With the results of the first search still listed, click Refine Search Results at the bottom of the Search PDF pane.
  2. Select the options you want, and click Refine Search Results.
  3. You can continue to refine the new results by repeating this procedure.
  4. If you want to go back to a previous pane click the back arrow at the top of the search pane.

 


11. What kind of  Database system is used to store and retrieve the MSDS documents?

The MSDS Hazcom Library is a full text database in that each MSDS document and related documents are fully indexed so that nearly every word is instantly searchable. The MSDS Hazcom Library  collection of hundreds of thousands of documents is made available in your web browser using the dtSearch engine to search and highlight search results hits in HTML, XML and PDF while displaying embedded links, formatting and images.
